Things To Do & Places To Stay

Visit Quambatook…

The name of Quambatook is derived from Aboriginal language and thought to mean “camp or resting place near water”.

Quamby, as it is affectionately known, is a quiet little Mallee town with a unique streetscape that locals refer to as the “Tree Guards”. Planted to commemorate the Great War, peppercorn trees line a generously wide lawn area that divides Guthrie street and creates a lovely welcoming vista.

The Avoca river winds its way through town with a walking track out to the weir area popular for fishing, canoeing and bird-watching.

Quambatook is famous as the childhood home of Australian music guru, Ian Molly Meldrum and country music star, John Williamson and St Kilda football supporters will likely add Jim Wallis the Flying Saint as a notable long time resident.

A renowned wheat farming area, Quamby is also famous for hosting the annual Australian Tractor Pull Championship Easter Saturday for more than forty years.

We’d like to think that the Silo Cinema will be added to the list of things that Quamby is famous for in the not-too-distant future.
